Fall/Winter Layering: How to Layer & Level Up Your Outfits Like a Pro

As the air gets cooler and the days shorter, layering becomes essential for staying warm without having to sacrifice style. Fall and winter styling isn’t just about bundling up and piling on clothes- it’s about creating depth, mixing textures, playing with proportions, and creating outfits that are both cozy and cute.

With these five steps, we’ve shared some easy tips for layering your way through the season, so you can stay comfortable and look great- no matter what the weather brings!

Step 1: Start From the Bottom

To start building your outfit, we suggest wearing a pair of dark wash, non-distressed jeans. Jeans are extremely versatile and will complement almost any top you choose to wear. Whether you prefer high-waisted, baggy, or skinny jeans, these create the perfect foundation for any fall outfit!

Step 2: Layer Oversized Sweater Over a White Tee

To begin layering, try wearing a large sweater on top of an oversized white tee or a collared button-up shirt. Ideally, the collar and the bottom of the white shirt should peek out for a more cohesive outfit. To create that trendy 90’s look, try a striped or neutral-color sweater. Colors like gray, brown, maroon, olive green, or blue are perfect for fall!

Step 3: Outer Layers

If the sweater/white shirt combo isn’t enough to stay warm, no need to worry! We suggest wearing either a leather jacket or a trench coat over your sweater to keep you out of the cold (in style, of course!).

Step 4: Shoes

Regardless of the bottoms you chose to layer with, shoes can tie together almost any outfit. If you choose to wear longer, looser-fitting jeans, try wearing some black or brown boots to complete your outfit. If you prefer to wear more form-fitting jeans, we recommend wearing a pair of ballet flats to make your look stand out.

Step 5: Time to Accessorize!

Now that you’ve successfully layered your clothes and shoes, it’s time to elevate your outfit with some accessories! We recommend accessorizing with belts, purses, sunglasses, and jewelry to complete your perfectly-layered outfit.
