DIY Fashion: creative ways to customize your wardrobe without breaking the bank

Sometimes the prices of the clothes you really want are too high – and instead of sacrificing your style, why not try out some easy DIY hacks to vamp up your looks? From adding little accessories to your fits to painting or sewing onto clothes you already have, it’s really easy to change up the basics you already own without emptying your wallet. Here are a few DIY ideas:

Bows

Bows are a super cute and fun way to upgrade any outfit. It’s easy to add a ribbon to the back pockets of your jeans, tied to your bag, or into your hair. You can also sew a ribbon onto a t-shirt to create a fun graphic tee. Another cute upgrade to a ribbon is a crochet string diy to add to your hair or outfits.

Patchwork

If you have any t-shirts lying around it’s super easy to add different designs onto the front using fabric scraps. Cutting out letters, fun designs or different animals and shapes and hand-stitching them on can be a cute addition to a plain t-shirt. You can also add designs to shorts, jeans or jackets for a fun feature. If you can’t sew, don’t worry! Another option is to use an iron-on patch that can be easily transferred to your clothing with heat.

Bag Charms

Drawing inspiration from the charms and scarves that are used by Jane Birkin to decorate the infamous Birkin, adding charms to your bag can add some personality to your outfit. You could add a keychain from a recent trip or from something meaningful to you. This DIY is full customizable – mix and match with anything you like.

Beaded necklaces

When looking for jewelry, it’s sometimes hard to find budget-friendly pieces that fit your style. Making necklaces can be a fun project that you get to wear. Bead and charm necklaces are super simple to make and allow you to fully customize every detail. Choose your favorite beads from pearl beads to fun glass beads to put them together in your own way.

Ribbon shoelaces

While you can buy ribbon laces that are purpose-made, it’s super easy to re-lace your shoes with any piece of ribbon. You can pick any color or style you like, with lace, patterns, or a fun combination. Colors that match your bag or a bow in your hair would be a great way to tie your outfit together.

Embroidery

With a little bit of practice, adding some embroidery to a t-shirt or a pair of jeans can add a unique twist to your clothing. Some ideas would be adding little stars or hearts to the back of your jeans or a more intricate design onto a t-shirt.

Painting/Bleaching

If youre not into sewing, there are still plenty of ways to customize your wardrobe. A great way is by painting or bleaching your jeans to create personalized designs. Using a stencil or freestyling a pattern can bring an old pair of pants back to life.
