Meet Our Community Members: Amber

Hi I’m Amber and I am an Editorial Intern at A Style Set. When I’m not writing blog posts and diving into the world of fashion you’ll probably find me on the slopes, strapped into my snowboard, or tending to my various indoor plants at home with a good playlist.

WHERE I’M FROM:

Australia! I live in Canberra which is our capital city :)

MY OOTD:

At the moment it’s starting to get a bit colder in Aus so we’ve started having to layer up a bit. My go-to outfit is my Thrills jeans, white Sambas, an Arket jumper, and probably a coffee in hand (in a reusable cup of course).

TRENDS I’M SEEING WHERE I LIVE:

The biggest trend I’m seeing here in Australia is sleek and minimal outfits with thick chunky jewellery. A great example of this would be a pair of jeans with a boat neck tank, bold gold or silver earrings, and rings.

CURRENT FASHION FAVORITE:

My absolute favourite fashion trend at the moment is all of the stripes we are seeing popping up. I’ve seen striped pants, tops, and jumpers taking over and I don’t think it can get any better. I love the look of pairing a stripe piece like pants and pairing it with block-coloured tops and jumpers.

FASHION MUSE: Mary McCarthy @marymccarths

My go-to fashion inspiration at the moment is the UK-based influencer, Mary McCarthy. I love the way she blends her active life and wardrobe in with her personality, from big scrunchies and fun bright colours in and out of the gym!

FAVORITE AESTHETIC: Scandi-style

I know that Scandi style has been around for a little while now, but I will always love the mixing of materials like knits and linen. It’s comfy but has those elevated basics, which we are seeing everywhere, at it’s core.

MY TREND PREDICTIONS:

One trend I think we are going to see more of in the future is bright-coloured outfits. I love seeing bright patterns and colours on anything from trousers to blouses and dresses. I think as the northern hemisphere moves into summer we might get to see more of this but we will just have to wait and see.

HOW I GOT INTO FASHION:

I was introduced to sewing by my mum when I was quite young and I think that really sparked my interest in the industry. From there I took textiles classes at school where I started sewing clothes and digging further into the world of fashion and design. Out of school I started in a design school which helped me build up my portfolio and allowed me to get into uni. There I first studied Fashion Design but pivoted to Visual Communication and Design where I could continue to explore design and creation, but I’ve always found myself coming back to the fashion industry in some way or another.

FAVORITE PART ABOUT INTERNING AT A STYLE SET:

My favourite part of being an intern here at A Style Set has been researching all of the different trends that you guys are loving and finding out more about each of them. It’s so exciting to have this deeper understanding of trend cycles and where each and every trend originated.
